These bird portraits were taken during a Field Mueseum expedition to Mount Gorongosa in Gorongosa National Park, Mozambique. Most of them are common species in the region but they exhibit an amazing diversity of colors, shapes and sizes.
Studio-like portraits like these allow for a more ‘clinical’ representation of the birds while extracting them from their natural environment and thus enhancing their features.
This photo technique is starting to be widely used among nature photographers like Joel Sartore, Piotr Naskrecki and the ‘Meet Your Neighbors‘ initiative.
Enjoy some Mozambican feathers!
